“I believe that performance is a potent form of political activism, offering a lens through which we can observe and challenge our relationship with politics.”

Crucial

The performance Crucial stands as a exploration of the intertwined struggles and triumphs of women's liberation, intricately into the symbolic tapestry of oil and vulnerability. Through the visceral imagery of a large barrel submerged within an oil-filled box and a naked
performer enveloped in cellophane, the artwork unveils a narrative of societal constraints and female resilience.

By harnessing the symbolism of oil - representing both wealth and exploitation - the performance delves into the multifaceted layers of patriarchal dominance that confine and commodify women. The juxtaposition of the performer's vulnerability against the industrial
presence of oil underscores the delicate balance between agency and subjugation, offering a stark portrayal of the complexities of female autonomy.

Moreover, the transparent barrier of cellophane symbolizes the norms and expectations imposed on women, yet it also reflects their resilience and defiance. Throughout the hourlong performance, viewers are encouraged to contemplate the strength required for women to
confront and transcend societal oppression.

Through Crucial, the boundaries of performance art are transcended, offering a transformative experience that prompts reflection on the intricate nuances of female identity and the ongoing struggle for emancipation and empowerment. It stands as a testament to the enduring resilience and unwavering spirit of women amidst a world rife with entrenched
power dynamics and societal pressures.
