Exclusive play: The frieze of life
A production about the man, myth and artist Edvard Munch. Love, anxiety and death are the main topics of this play set in Munch’s studio just below the house.
The audience will get to know Munch’s thoughts on his upbringing and what shaped him to become who he was. “The frieze of life” was considered by Munch himself as the main pieces of his artistic career and it includes paintings and graphics containing deeply personal and expressive motives. Munch also called it “A poem to life”.
Paintings such as Kiss, Vampire, Madonna, Melancholi and Screm, Woman in three stages and The dance of life touches on topics that moulded Munch in different ways. Through considerations and retrospection on his own life the audience are brought into the story behind the art and closer to Munch, the man.
In this play the actor Geirr Johnson introduces Edvard Munch through words from his own diary. The show is played in Munch’s studio in Åsgårdstrand. This brings the audience closer to the artist Edvard Munch, both physically and through words and atmosphere.
