Exhibition about the whale catcher “Southern Actor”
Event Navigation

The Whaling Museum also has a new exhibition space on the second floor. Currently, this exhibition is about the whale catcher “Southern Actor”, which has an eventful and sometimes dramatic story. It has been produced by the museum staff. Environmental activists torpedoed the vessel and for a period, it was occupied by demonstrators. Today, “Southern Actor” has been restored and is a veteran ship worthy of preservation, welcoming thousands of visitors every year. The exhibition explains the history of the vessel from whaling in the Antarctic to its current role as a museum boat. A film shows the crew as well as the restoration process.
