Welcome to The Thor Heyerdahl International Day 2019

It is time to pay tribute to The Ocean! Featuring awards, singing and beautiful movie clips. Time to take it seriously. With research, stories and action.

On October 20, the Soloist Choir, Foreign Minister, WWF leader, two adventurous marine scientists, young people who have won awards, Cirkus Cirkør and Oslo’s mayor will come. We do it in the name of Norway’s internationally renowned sea adventurer Thor Heyerdahl.

  • The Norwegian Soloist Choir frames it all with a mini concert.
  • Mayor Marianne Borgen of Oslo, the European Environment Capital gives a welcoming speech.
  • Two scientists and adventurers will hold lectures. Yngve Kristoffersen let himself freeze in the ice in an air bag boat and drifted past the North Pole within a year.
  • Nina Jensen will lead the world’s largest research vessel.
  • Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide and Secretary General of the WWF Verdens naturfond Bård Vegar Solhjell summarize challenges and solutions.
  • High school students from many places in Norway participated in a competition with their thoughts – three groups won and will present their works.

Organized by the Thor Heyerdahl Institute in collaboration with the WWF World Wildlife Foundation and the Norwegian Soloists Choir. Jotron and the Norwegian Shipowners Association support the event.
