General Rules for reenactors at historical events

  • Participation in events, whether with or without overnight stay, must always be agreed upon with the museum in advance.
  • All reenactors must meet the public in a friendly and presentable manner.
  • All reenactors are expected to be able to educate the public about their own craft, equipment, or goods.
  • All reenactors are expected to comply with Norwegian law.
  • Open fires are only permitted in fire pans.
  • All tents must have a fire extinguisher.
  • We encourage all reenactors to have a smoke detector in their tent.
  • Our authenticity rules must always be followed. Read the rules here.
  • Dogs must be kept on a leash on the premises, and please note that the use of a leash is required year‑round along the Coastal Path and in the Borre Park.
  • All waste must be disposed of in designated areas, and ash must be placed in the fire‑safe containers.
  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere on our premises, indoors or outdoors.
  • The entire area is public property, and therefore, according to Norwegian law, alcohol consumption is not allowed. Additionally, please note that the Midgard Viking Centre has a serving license for designated parts of the area.
  • By participating as a reenactor in events, you consent to being photographed, and you acknowledge that these images may be used by Vestfoldmuseene for marketing purposes.
  • We aim to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone, both reenactors and visitors. These rules are designed to help achieve this in the best possible way.
