Haugar Art Museum is a contemporary art museum with an art collection and special exhibitions focusing on Norwegian and international art. The museum is located on a historic hill in Tønsberg, nestled between the old assembly site and burial mounds from the Viking Age. The museum was founded 1993 and opened its doors to the public in 1995 in the remodeled Seaman’s School from 1921.
Haugar Art Museum is part of a consolidated museum organization called Vestfoldmuseene IKS.
Haugar Art Museum works actively to convey contemporary art in a varied form to a large audience. We aim to be an inclusive place where diverse cultural, artistic, social, and political positions are welcome. The museum collaborates locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally through our exhibitions and educational programs.
