About the exhibition

LOL - Humor in Norwegian Art History is a survey exhibition that deals with humorous art and the use of humor in Norwegian art, from the so-called Golden Age of the late 19th century to the contemporary.

Humor is an underrepresented topic in art historical research, but nevertheless strongly present throughout much of art history. The exhibition presents works dating from 1844 to 2023, that all touch on the theme, either directly or indirectly. 

Some of the works are conventionally funny in ways that will be widely recognizable, while others take a more convoluted approach. 

 

In connection with the exhibition, a catalog is published with contributions by Ida Bringedal, Erlend Hammer and Arve Rød.
