The Institute has co-operative agreements and partnership with four universities:

Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland(since 2002) Pacific Lutheran University, USA (since 2010), Augsburg University, USA (since 2017), University Campus Suffolk, England (since 2011).

The Institute has previously carried out collaborative projects with these universities.

Since 2019 it has been in dialogue with Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, about a possible Memorandum of Understanding.

Due to the workload associated with organisational development issues in 2015-2022, there has been a low level of activity in relation to co-operative agreements with partner universities. There is an intention to revise and revitalise these partnerships in the future.

From 2005 onwards, the Institute has organised a number of activities in co-operation with Thor Heyerdahl`s hometown in Italy, the municipality of Andora.

In 2013, it also started collaboration with the music organisation, Amusando, in connection with an operatic competition ( T.O.S.C.A) in Andora.

From 2013-2019, annual opera concerts have taken place in Larvik, where the winners of the singing competition perform in Larvik.

Since 2013 it has collaborated the Italian Embassy in Oslo on several projects.

The institute has collaborated with Larvik and Andora municipality since 2015 with the aim of establishing a partnership between the two municipalities. A formal « twin town» agreement between Larvik and Andora was signed in 2018.
