The Thor Heyerdahl professorship
The Thor Heyerdahl professorship was established in co-operation with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NBMU), 2008-2012.The main focus was research and research supervision in climate politics. Professor Arild Vatn (PhD) was appointed to the Thor Heyerdahl professorship (www.nbmu.no).
Four main thematic areas within Environmental Governance were defined for the professorship:
a) Climate politics
b) Institutions and behaviour
c) Health and development
d) Environmental governance
Several books and articles were made by Vatn during professorship period.
The Thor Heyerdahl International Summer School
The Thor Heyerdahl International Summer School, (2011-2014) was an initiative under the professorship. It was set up in co-operation with the Research Council of Norway, The Fridtjof Nansen Institute and NBMU. The aim was to develop the participant`s skills in analysis of environmental political issues.
The summer school have had the following themes:
2011- Institutions for Sustainable Development
2012- Global Environmental Governance
2014- The Green Economy
The aim of the summer-school was to bring together young and more experienced researchers from all over the world, at the same time as developing the participant`s skills in analysing environmental -political issues.
